Pacific coast tides
If you are not familiar with the tides on the West Coast, you may not know that we have two high/low periods daily, which vary quite significantly. This means tide clocks, which are great for the Atlantic coast are useless here.
Every boater needs to get themselves a copy of the tide tables for the area. These are published yearly by the government and can be purchased as a booklet or the information can also be found online. Point Atkinson is the nearest tidal station for Vancouver and you can download the table here.

Basic Sailing Skills by Sven Donaldson is the CYA authorized text for learning to sail and the White Sail courses. Great book for both dinghy and cruising beginner sailors. Available for $30.
Advanced Sailing Skills by Sven Donaldson is the CYA authorized text for learning to sail and the Bronze Sail courses. Great book for more advanced sailors on both dinghies and cruisers. Available for $30.

Pleasure Craft Operator Cards (PCOC) are required as of September 15, 2009 for all operators of vessels that have a motor, whether it is in use or not.
